The intersection between the process of digital coloniality, algorithmic racism, and informational capitalism on platforms and social networks

Abstract

The main objective of this article is to investigate whether there is an intersection between the process of digital coloniality, algorithmic racism, and informational capitalism on platforms and social networks. As a research problem, it is believed that not every citizen is able to be present and connect effectively in the digital world, nor do all have full access to their digital citizenship, even if they still have a user or profile on the various digital platforms. As a central research hypothesis, it is imagined that the power of large technology companies, Big Techs, practically dictates the rules of access (inclusion or exclusion), behavior, influence, and decision-making of users on digital platforms and social networks. The research methodology to be applied is based on an exploratory, investigative analysis, through hypothetical-deductive survey, analysis of the problem and hypothesis, as well as bringing contributions and reflections regarding the subjects mentioned on the screen. As results found regarding digital coloniality, algorithmic racism and informational capitalism on platforms and social networks, there is an intersection between the three themes in question, mainly in relation to the aspects of prejudice, discrimination, racism and social and digital exclusion, the changes caused by the “network society”, in addition to the presence of the sovereignty and power of Big Techs.
